More about “My Privilege”…

“My Privilege” is found poetry. At its core, it is a speech made on a night of public controversy and public discussion. It happened on March 28, 2023. A school board member from Riverhead Central School District in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY had made disparaging comments about Latinos and about the Brentwood community and had to resign her position.

Many members of the Brentwood and Riverhead communities came to support Latino students. Though, one man gave an eloquent speech which expressed apathy at best: Apathy towards the insults of a colleague; apathy towards the feelings of Latinos; and apathy towards the need for reflection and healing.

Jim Navarre will play the role of “Wallis”. The man who did not care.
